Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana Massive relief package released by Finance minister amidst COVID-19

Within 36 hours of Lockdown Indian financial minister, Nirmala Sitharaman has announced an economic package 1.70 Lakh crore to help the poor people in the country. FM has mentioned that Govt is working to reach out to poor people, women, migrant workers. Govt doesn’t want anyone to remain hungry or without money. She also mentioned that currently, govt is focusing on two aspects that are Cash transfer and food security. Govt has already announced the extension of tax deadlines, ease on minimum balance for saving accounts, no charge for any ATM transaction. It means you can withdraw money from any ATM machine there will be no charge.

Here’s the list of announcements made by FM: -
Rs. 1.70 Lakh crore has been released by Govt under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Scheme.
1. Govt will provide the incurrence cover worth 50 lakh for Doctors, nurses, sanitation workers, medical staff members. She expressed her gratitude saying that they are the “frontline warriors” who are facing the coronavirus patients.

2. Govt has announced that over and above 5 KG rice/wheat that is already given, they will provide free 5 KG extra Rice/wheat per person for around 80 crore people of the county. In addition to this govt has said that they will provide free 1 KG region-specific pulse per family under PM Garib Kalyan Scheme for the next 3 months.

3. Govt has announced they will transfer direct CASH through DBT.

4. Govt will transfer the first instalment of Rs 2000 for 8.69 crore farmers of the country under PM Kisan scheme.

5. Under Manrega scheme govt has increased the wage amount from Rs 182 to Rs 202. As a result of this 5-crore people will get benefits from this scheme.

6.‘Jan Dhan account holders’ women will get Rs 500 per month for the next three months. This will benefit 20 crore women in the country.

7. Women under Ujjawala scheme beneficiaries will bet free gas cylinders for the next three months. This will benefit 8.3 crore BPL families of the county.

8. Govt will provide an additional Rs 1000 for the next three months for old age citizens, widows and for physically disabled people.  This will benefit 3 crore people in the country.

9. Under the ‘Deen Dayal National Livelihood’ Mission, the free loan will be given of Rs 20 lakhs. The amount limit has increased by govt from Rs 10 Lakhs to Rs 20 Lakhs.

10. Govt has also announced that they will pay the EPF contribution for both employer and the employee add together 24% for the next three months. This will be applicable only for those who have up to 100 employees and 90% of them are earning less than 15000.

11. EPFO regulation will be amended so that workers can withdraw up to 75% of their contingency expenditure non-refundable advance or three months of wages in advance whichever is less. This will benefit 4.8 crore workers in the country.

12. Indian Govt has directed the state govt to use the welfare funds for building and construction labourers. The funds have Rs 31000 crore to help those who are facing the economic problem due to lockdown in the country.
