The WannaCry cyber-attack one of the biggest ever cyber-attack, Ransomware is a computer malware that installs secretly on your computer and blocks the access of data on the system until some of the money is paid. Over 200,000 systems around the globe were affected by this attack. In Asia, where many offices closed on Friday before WannaCry ransomware affected. Ransomware takes over user files and demanding $300 to restore the system.
WannaCry ransomware mainly hits Britain’s
National health services, Germany’s rail network, Spanish telecommunications
operator Telefonica, US logistics giant FedEx and Russia’s interior ministry.
Indian Nation security adviser Gulshan Rai said “There are 100 systems affected
in India as now there are no more threats.
How does it work?
When a system is affected by this virus, the ransomware connects the server to
activate the program and then encrypting the files in the on the affected
system. Once the all files are encrypted and program complete, message post on
the screen of system demanding for money to decrypt all the files otherwise
threaten to delete the information stored on the system.
Most ransomware is spread hidden within the
Word documents, PDFs and other .exe files sent via Email. Computer systems
which are already affected by the ransomware virus offer a back door for
further attacks. Pirated software use in India may leave Indian company to
unable to report if they are affected by the ransomware cyber-attack. Microsoft
Windows XP – Operating systems are at high risk and still widely used in many
countries. The WannaCry ransomware Massive thread has been possible in Windows
server 2003 windows 8 and windows XP due to security vulnerability. For these
Operating system, Microsoft doesn’t provide mainstream support. However,
Microsoft has released a security patch which basically covers up the windows
vulnerability and secures the system.
